A girl witnesses the end of her parents marriage, while beginning a tumultuous affair with a troubled boy.
Seventeen year old Nicole Torelli should be enjoying her senior year in high school. But tragedy struck this spring, when her eight year old brother and his best friend failed to return from baseball practice, leaving the community devastated and her estranged father under suspicion.
In an effort to put some normalcy back in her life, she spends time with her grandparents, the first interracial couple on a street now predominately African American. Listening to her grandfather’s spotty memories, her faith in her father’s innocence grows ever stronger, just as class differences threaten to derail a budding relationship with the Irish teenager living next door. Nicole’s drawn to him even though she goes to a private school, while he sits on the porch all day.
She’s busy planning her future, but he seems convinced he won’t make it to age twenty one. And that fatalistic attitude from the boy she’s falling in love with is the last thing she needs with her family coming apart, both emotionally and financially.

I had to push on and on until the very end as a greedy person that could not get enough. I embraced every emotion. I was on a roller coaster of life that had you clutching to hold on to gravity that was on a steady pace but yet at times going at a rapid pace. How can I began to define the impact of loving your soul mate. Every love will not come wrapped in a package that illuminates this is it. Time and growth has to accompany some relationships for it to last. This book embodies how love can be s o sensual, sexual, throbbing hotness leaking through the pages. It is also real when life sets in but through the tests comes one own personal testimony. I want more. A book that opens your heart and mind get it. You will not regret it. Beautiful book!!! I can't wait for book 2!!! Camille Leone is now on my favorite author list. Great writing style. This story will stay with you days after reading it.
There were some editing issues that stopped me from giving this 5 stars.
I was intrigued by the synopsis of this book. While not expecting a lot from a YA genre, I was more than surprised by the depth and reality of this authors characters. Ms. Loene gives us a story of three generations of women and men who's individual circumstances try to overwhelm them.
The reversal of roles with mixed raced Nicole not understanding the street mentality of white lover Derek was fresh and spot on. No one is blameless in this story with the exception of the child missing throughout the book. Exceptional writing. I think you'll really like it even without the typical HEA.
Hope there's a book with resolution.
I waited a log time for The Stone Boy to come out and it was worth the wait. I just hope there is a book 2 to this, because I want to know what happen to her brother Gabe!
Awesome, this book was so good. I could not put it down. Nicole and Derek's relationship was so real and so mesmerizing. This book is a must have. I hope there is a second book explaining the disappearance of Gabe.
Great book, I loves the character wish it would have went into more depth about her little brother and the ending. But overall gods book. It goes to show that real love sees no color or class.
Really didn't know what to expect when I purchased this book. I never read anything from this author before. I truly enjoyed meeting Derek and Nicole. I think I would of liked a better ending. No information about Gabe, weather he is dead or alive what every happen to the revenge Derek wanted to get on Nicole 's shooter. What happen to Prehenney? A lot of unanswered questions. Hopefully it will be a brook two to explain Gabe's disappearance, Nicole 's parents relationship, what happened to her best friend Regean and did Nicole do what her grandmother said she did to get her grandfather? All unanswered maybe a book two???? I hope so.
